How Do I Save Money On Cheap Car Insurance For New Driver?

By Mike Anderson Posted in Car Insurance News

Everyone wants to save money, especially on car insurance. They are already, in many cases, making high monthly payments on cars which are becoming ever more expensive. A new driver is no exception. It is even more important for a new driver to save money, because their car insurance starts at a higher rate than for other age groups.

Characteristics Of A New Driver

A new driver has nothing to show the insurance companies relating to safe driving. The driving career for the new driver just started. They are rookies. Insurance companies base their premiums on statistics. These statistics prove that a young driver will put in more claims than an older driver. Even more ominous is that a young male will put in more claims than a young female driver. This is because a new male driver, according to insurance company statistics, is more aggressive on the highway than his female counterpart.

Ways To Save For A New Driver

A new driver, male or female, should take a drivers education course while still in school. Insurance companies like this. The new driver should be a good student, if possible. Insurance statistics show good students are safer drivers and put in less claims. The more claims an age group puts in, the higher the premiums for the entire group.

The new driver should use the car primarily for commuting to and from school. When purchasing a car, new cars require collision and comprehensive coverage, making the premium higher. Older cars do not require this coverage for crashes, fire and theft.

If purchasing a car, make sure it is not one that is on the list of cars stolen most often. Also, do not purchase the cars that statistically are used for speeding and other forms of reckless driving. The names of these cars should be common knowledge. If not, make an effort to do some research online.
