Many people in today’s society do not have health insurance, because it is too expensive. On the other hand there are people who can afford health insurance but they refuse to pay the high premiums so they wait until they have an illness to purchase health insurance. Many people think that this is what is called a free ride or a cheap way to avoid a health insurance rider.

What Is A Cheap Health Insurance Rider?

A rider is a provision in an insurance policy that allows for changes to be made to the terms of the coverage. A rider can consist of multiple indemnities where a double or triple accidental death benefit can be added, or a waiver of premiums for a specified amount of time, or exclusions or additional coverage can be added.

Many people have used the fact that premiums are expensive and it cost more to add these riders on to the policy after the fact that they wait and purchase insurance after they get sick. Others wait and see if they can apply for government assisted insurance.

Should You Get A Cheap Health Insurance Rider Or Succumb To The High Premiums?

Those that are opposed to the cheap riders or free riders feel that this may cause deductibles to become too high for the average Joe to get insurance. The defenders of this believe that it will eventually lower the cost of unnecessary procedures because you will only pay for what you need when you need, and some people will wait until they have to have a serious procedure before they will even consider purchasing health insurance.

Cheap riders are ok if you choose to live that way. You should have health insurance just in case something happens and especially if you have kids you have to have some type of protection for your kids, their health is very important even if you are not that concerned about your health. Get some type of insurance for yourself and your families.
